Meeting Details: Topic: Interactive Worship and the Arts Date: September 17th, 2005 Location: TBA Cost: $40
Register now.
We are witnessing many new worship forms as the church seeks to provide worship that is meaningful and relevant to contemporary life. One of the growing trends is interactive worship – but there are a lot of different ideas of what makes worship interactive: easy-to-sing music, the use of high-end technology, in-pew activities for children. In this workshop, we’ll start with cues from interactive theater to explore some ways to make worship interactive. From these practices we will distill some principles to aiding interaction. Then we’ll explore together how using other (especially visual) arts in interactive ways as we seek to listen to God and discern God’s ways, and accept God’s invitation to join with God. The leader for this workshop is Rev. Dr, Thom Bower, Director of Proverbial Fools. Thom has been involved in clown ministry for over 25 years, performing in uncounted church settings, traveling with a circus, street performing, and working at a renaissance festival. He has taught Christian Education at a seminary and is an active leader in the religious educator’s groups of the United Church of Christ. He has also been a local pastor, youth minister, and Minister of Education. The registration fee includes all materials and supplies, all handouts, and lunch. Due to the nature of this event, registration will be limited.
